So, it’s May. Which means for about three months I’ve been FULL ON SLACKER on the writing tip. And for once its not because I spend my time watching Law and Order while eating pie…I’m actually legitimately busy. Between being a semi-full time organizer of people’s things, full-time musician, vintage hoarder and needy girlfriend, I’m now officially a DIRECTOR. WHAT? YES! It’s true.

Ammo and I just got done shooting a music video for Black Heart, one of the very first Black Flamingo songs we wrote back when it was just the two of us. It’s part of a three-part video series I”m going to direct…definitely fun, DEFINITELY a lot harder than you’d think. Luckily for me I have Mareesa and Ammo, who are actually PROFESSIONAL/EXPERIENCED film makers guiding me every step of the way.

It helps to that my best friend Nico designed a killer dress, and that my wife Megan created a facial masterpiece via makeup. OH YEAH, and the fact that Kate Kolenda, of Dumb White Girls, is a total babe model didn’t hurt either

Anyways, I’m pretty sure you’ll see it as soon as it’s done!

My friend Neil owns an amazing record store in Echo Park called Origami Vinyl. I work there sometimes, but mostly I just go there and drool over their wonderfully curated selection of vinyl. On 4/21/12, The Echo will be hosting a lot of fun bands, Origami Vinyl will be open for 14 hours, and I will most likely be wearing black.

SORRRRRRYYYYY!

Mostly sorry Mom, since you’re the only one who really reads this.

Usually when I don’t blog, its because my life has become stale and boring, and completely unreadable, but lately it’s because I just don’t have time!

So many awesome and rad things are happening that I’m having a hard time keeping up with them much less blogging about them.

Black Flamingo is jamming out hard core, to the point of almost becoming a jam band. Seriously Phish, move over, 10 minute Black Flamingo solos are coming your way. No seriously though, we do have some awesome stuff happening, we just can’t spill the beans quite yet.

SOMETHING I CAN TELL YOU THOUGH, is that I’m directing my first music video. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just really want to cement my status as a Renaissance Woman (even though I had to google how to spell that. True Story.). It’s obviously going to be magical and creepy and slow, and Ammo is shooting it so its basically going to look like a moving Ammo Photography  photograph. So basically its going to look like the best thing ever.

On top of that my friend Courtney and I are designing a line for Pull My Daisy, which I’m super excited about.

So you can see/forgive me for not writing so much, right?

Black Flamingo is on tour!!!!

We left Friday morning at 10AM. 7 people, one giant van, lots of equipment, even more clothing, a box full of yummy food, and the open road. Our first stop was the Spirit Room, Jerome AZ. Jerome is this super cute little town on the side of a mountain filled with bikers, artists, hippies, and rich people wanting to be hippies.

It was a super fun show, and we met some rad people. People were dancing, and even though we literally got out of the van and straight onto the stage , we had a great time and played our lil black hearts out. (Get it, black heart…like our song off the….ok you get it.).

Afterwards we went to the most magical place in the world. Eliphante.

Eliphante is an artistic village built by primarily by Michael Kahn & Leda Livant Kahn over a span of 30 years. It’s filled with magic, art installations, and its basically where we all want to move and stay forever.

Sadly, we had to leave to drive 20 HOURS STRAIGHT to Houston. By hour 17 we were all pretty delirious, but in good spirits.

Black Flamingo plus Cole,Tracey, Ryan and Charley!

It’s been a while since I actually wrote an actual blog post. I’ve been so busy with the band, working and keeping the online store updated (and also wasting time spying on facebook), that I really haven’t had any time to sit and write something.
Time is funny that way. I never seem to have it when I need it, but when I have it I waste it. One of my big resolutions was to quit spending so much time on facebook and “surfing the web”, but so far, that hasn’t held up very much. It would be interesting to log my time spent on social media/fashion/lifestyle blogs. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the time I “don’t have”, stared right back at me.

I guess the other reason I haven’t been writing is because I don’t really have much to say. Or if I do have something to say, its kind of snarky and sassy/negative, and I just don’t really have the desire to put that out into the universe. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some snappy, bitchy writers, but I have no desire to become one of them. There’s so many blogs that solely run on the fuel of tearing people down- there doesn’t need to be one more.

However, I do have some exciting news. My band, Black Flamingo is going to SXSW, and we’re going to make an amazing roadtrip out of it. Which I will be documenting here. It’s been a while since I’ve had a proper adventure to blog about and I’m really excited. There will be lots of videos, photos and stories I’m sure. Until then, I’m going to try and update this a little bit more!xx

So yeah, I’m sick. Basically I ate sugar, and my immune system exploded and here I am, laying in bed, watching season 13 of Law & Order SVU ( I miss Stabler).
The good news is I actually went on a job interview today and dropped off some vintage at the beautiful, newly instated Myrtle Shop in Echo Park. GO visit there now, it’s such a beautiful store, and Whitney, the owner, is super cute! So at least my day wasn’t a complete waste.

Hopefully all my “secret” cures will whip me back into tip-top shape by tomorrow!
